Assistant Manager

Star Fostering is a family owned independent fostering agency based at East Bridgford, Nottingham.

We are a rapidly expanding service and are able to be innovative so your ideas and enthusiasm will be welcomed.

Due to a steady and ongoing expansion, we are appointing an Assistant Manager to work alongside the Registered Manager.    If you are dynamic, a people person and a team player then this could be the job for you.   We are looking for someone with safeguarding and/or fostering experience who is wanting to progressk their career into a management role.   Previous management experience would be of benefit but not essential.    You would initially hold a small caseload of 4/5 fostering households to supervise and would also undertake the following tasks:

  • Monthly supervision and annual appraisal of Supervising Social Workers
  • Overseeing case management including dealing with safeguarding issues.
  • Working with the Panel Administrator to ensure assessments are of a high quality and are presented at Panel in a timely manner.
  • Supervision of Independent Assessors.
  • Occasional chairing of team meetings and practice meetings.
  • Attending local authority meetings and contributing towards inspections.
  • Ensuring compliance on documentation in line with Fostering Regulations and National Minimum Standards.

You will need:

  • A recognised Social Work qualification (Degree/DipSW).
  • At least 2 years experience within fostering, adoption or child protection.
  • To be registered with Social Work England as a Social Worker.
  • Demonstrable experience of Social Work practice with children and young people in an assessment, case management and/or fostering setting.
  • NVQ5 in Management or a willingness to work towards achieving this.
  • Good working knowledge of all relevant legislation and standards.
  • A sound knowledge of issues related to fostering.
  • A full UK driving licence with business insurance.
  • To be very child focussed and a strong team player.

You will be required to take part in the out of hours on-call service, every fifth week. You must be able to work independently and be able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Private healthcare membership is provided as well as a generous mileage allowance.    Salary scale £40 – £45K.

Cluster Co-ordinator

Do you think you have the ability to support other carers? Do you enjoy being creative and feel able to arrange fun activities for carers and children? If so, this could be just what you’re looking for!

We’re looking for an experienced foster carer or a professional with transferrable skills to join our Starfish Enterprise Pilot Project as a Cluster Co-ordinator!

  • Could you open up your home to other carers and children for social activities?
  • Do you consider yourself to be a confident, outgoing, proactive individual who enjoys working with carers and young people to achieve their full potential?

As a Cluster Co-ordinator you will provide support to our amazing carers and the children in their care. This support would involve 1-1 support, sleepover support for our young people and arranging regular activities for everyone in your cluster to join. Ideally, activities could also take place at your home!

As our Cluster Co-ordinator, you will also be responsible for communicating with carers on a regular basis, working alongside our Supervising Social Workers to maintain placements and provide the best support possible to our carers, keep regular recordings and communication regarding the work you are doing within your cluster. The whole purpose of this role is to empower carers and children to build strong relationships with each other, in turn this also aims to prevent issues escalating and maintain positive placements. As a result, it’s important to us that you have the flexibility to work in both emergency and planned situations.

You will benefit from having regular support from a Supervising Social Worker, as well as being included in our regular support groups. You will also have access to our online training programme and face to face training sessions. Last but by no means least, you will also receive a financial allowance.
